The Giraffite's Newest Member

Hello everyone,

Please Help me Welcome our newest member Blandine to the club!^__^ . At first I was going to write "Victim" but that sounded too awful for such a fun syndrome!

Blandine from Montreal is now part of the "Giraffiters"... those whose heart and mind make them act upon seeing a Giraffe... and I confess: I am usually the happy recipient.

Remember that post? The Giraffite Syndrome?

Today Sofi Hagirafa recieved this cute Giraffe with apple and hearts straight from Canada:

Merci Blandine

Sophie Ha Girafa and the Elusive Dolphin

This time, Sophie HaGirafa went undercover to investigate the teething competition!

I had heard from a few new mothers that they got a "very similar teether from natural rubber in the shape of a dolphin", from one leading store in the country.

Hmm.. Interesting, interesting.... *raising one eyebrow, hand rubbing chin*

Of course, I needed to get to the bottom of it. ^__^

So one morning off I went, looking in various places for a dolphin that is made of natural rubber. I was not even looking for a teether... just a dolphin! Show me a dolphin!
All that time, I could not help but wonder how the shape of a dolphin can really help with the teething, but maybe it had a very flexible shape? A very long nose? Something to bite onto?

After carefully questioning and researching all the stores around, I can inform you that no such dolphin exists, and has most probably never existed, according to one of the long-time managers of one particular famous baby store. She said that maybe I got the wrong information? She showed me a plastic dolphin that children play with in the bath, along with a few other animals. But as she mentioned: It is pure plastic, not made in France, and she really could not think of any Baby-toy made of natural rubber.

I thanked her very much and returned home with two thoughts: One being "I still have a lot of work to make Sophie La Girafe known here", and the other: "Maybe I should have told her about Sophie La Girafe?"

What do you think?

Not every Baby falls in love with Sofi HaGirafa right away... but eventually they do!

Dear all,

This is a very special post! It is a letter Sophie The Girafe recieved from Morgan.

Morgan is a stay at home mom to Emma and Annie. [quoting Morgan] In between eating Bon Bons and watching Soaps, she writes about life, the adventures of motherhood, and the challenges of raising her two little chicks on her blog The Little Hen House. She is also a Senior Editor at Baby Gizmo and Rated by Mom.

Last September , she wrote the following letter to Sophie Ha Girafa and kindly authorized me to share it with you on Sophie's blog.

Dear Sophie, I’m Sorry

Dear Sophie,

I want to make a formal apology for the poor review I gave you a few months ago. If you would be so kind, please allow me the opportunity to explain myself.

You see, I believe the timing was a bit premature when I first introduced you to Annie. She was only four months old. How could I have expected her to connect with you when the only thing she seemed interested in connecting with at the time was my boob? How silly of me.

I know that I called you boring, but when I look back on it, I think Annie was the boring one. I mean really, what does a four month old do that is that interesting?

Then there is the business of me poking a little fun at you for being French. You know, the French have some very nice qualities. Plus, it’s safe to say that some of the finest wine, cheese, and baked goods have come out of your country. Thank you for that, by the way.

Remember how I didn’t think it was that big of a deal that you are organic? Well, it turns out that I’m actually relieved that you are organic. Watching Annie try to -what can only be described as- gnaw your face off with her iron gums, it is reassuring to know that you aren’t going to poison her little body with any chemicals.

Finally, I’m sorry I compared you to the three pack of dogs toys sold at Costco. You are so much more than that. You are my saving grace. The thing that keeps me, and Annie, from falling into the fiery pits of teething hell. You have been there for me in the darkest of times. You have been my rock, my savior, and the one person I can count on to really pull through for me.

My dearest Sophie, please forgive me.

Yours Truly,

Morgan

Dear Morgan,

On behalf of Sophie HaGirafa let me say that you are too harsh on yourself, you have done nothing wrong! Timing to meet and fall in love with Sophie simply varies with each Baby! ^__^

The most important thing is for the Magic to happen; for Sophie to do what she does best: being gnawed, masticated, and devoured in the safest organic way.

I am also sure she would be very touched by your beautiful letter!

Again, many thanks again for letting me share your letter!

Kinds regards to you and Annie,

C.

Sophie HaGirafa get whiter with time, so is her life!

Two posts in two days: it means the following post must be very important, right?!

And yes! it is and I do not want to wait to publish it, because many new parents have been worried for no reason.

I am talking about Sophie Ha Girafa losing her spots...,her black eyes.... or more!

Please,
Do not be alarmed
when your Sofi HaGirafa loses her colors.

  • She is not getting sick,
  • she is not losing her giraffe-teething appeal,
  • she is just proving to you that no conservative or chemical substances are used in the making of Sophie La Girafe and that your Baby has been enjoying Sofi!

With time, with saliva, with perspiration from hot humid summers like the kind we have in the Middle East, Sophie The Giraffe will have her cute and attractive spots disappear.

It is part of experiencing Sofi HaGirafa and her 100% natural guarantee. Sadly no natural food coloring has been found to be time-defying yet!

But it is 100% normal and must be expected!

Here are some Sophies sent by friends and family to show you that even white (and Gasp!!! **blind** ) Sophie La Girafe is still there and loved!

Andy Warhol was right when he said:
“They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself” ... Babies and Summer can do that to our beloved Sophies...

Do not panic, remember it is Normal!
Even though Sophie does not get old as a baby toy,
we can still know she has been at work!

She simply gets whiter!

Giraffes make great totem animals

Have you ever wondered what your totem animal was? Maybe it is written in your Baby Book along with your astrological sign, planet, ascendant and more? Maybe you know it and have always known it? Or, like me, you do not know... and have never even thought about it!?

I have just recently discovered that Giraffes can be totem animals. Actually, why not? As intrigued and as interested as I am by legends and folklores, supersititions and beliefs, I had never really paid any attention to totem animal before. So I started wondering and researching about that.

There are several ways to discover one's totem.

Some people know instinctively what their totem animal is, they simply feel a certain attraction for an animal, see it in dreams, look for it at the zoo....  I am afraid my totem has never been very strong, or I was oblivious to it. Either way, it is a shame, because I discovered in this site that Animal Totems are guides. It is important to have Guides in Life. You can have several animal guides throughout your life. Sometimes an animal guide will come into your life for a short period of time, and then be replaced by another, depending on the journey or direction you are headed towards. Your guide will instruct and protect you as you learn how to navigate through your spiritual and physical life.

I must now find out what my totem is: Looking back at my childhood and all, I have always liked watching the monkeys doing their acrobatics at the zoo, but, being an ex-gymnast, this is not very surprising. I also like Baby Elephants, I find them very cute...same with Koalas...

A few months ago when I went to a zoo I did spend 90% of my time by the Giraffes (again not very surprising thanks to Famous Giraffe Teether Sophie) and the last animal I dreamt of was a donkey (it was rare enough for me to remember the dream, let alone the animal!). However, I do not feel any special attraction or connection (except for Sophie bien sûr!) to any of these animals, which means I have to take the test here . (there is another one here , both gave me the same totem too!)

After answering 19 questions, I discovered that my totem animal is 42 % wolf, but also 32 % deer and 21 % eagle!

I am very impressed!!!!!!!! *imagining them as ONE totem* ...I kind of like these animals too. I am also a bit surprised. I thought the Giraffe was going to be my totem. Afterall, this is THE animal I have had constantly in mind for the past 12 months, and I write about it almost all the time... and the meaning of the Giraffe Totem is quite good:

Farsightedness, Communication / Foreseeing the future / Reaching beyond

People who have a Giraffe totem often know the future.

They can sense what is going to happen, what lies over the horizon.

Giraffe people should be very careful of what they say.

Do not allow other's words to affect you.
Giraffes have their legs firmly planted on the earth but their heads in the sky. This represents balance and the ability to progress.
Giraffe people should never become complacent and lose sight of the future.
Life will become increasingly difficult until you set your sights once more on the path ahead.
Giraffes, and their people, have very strong ties to family and friends, especially parent and children.(If the giraffe happens to be your totem, you can read on here and here)

Come to think of it:
since Sophie HaGirafa is with Baby from such a young age... and is loved so much...
99% of Babies must have Giraffe as totem!
Isn't it wonderful???

So ... do not be shy, share with us:
what is your Totem Animal?

We got our first recognition badge!

Sort of. :) Actually it is not Sofi per se but the blog... Still it is the first "badge" ^__^

You may have noticed it on the right hand-side scrolling down...

The badge comes from Go! Overseas. It is no so much for our Star Sophie The teether even though she is the reason for the blog, but for the experience of starting "something" ( anything!)  in a new country. It is a fabulous adventure where one learns everyday a lot. I highly recommend it and if you need some "cheerleading" , contact me! ^__^

Go! Overseas mission:

Creating a centralized website to provide the resources required for meaningful travel abroad. That idea has grown and expanded into  a community driven website of like minded people who are all passionate about teaching, studying and volunteering abroad. GO! Overseas features a popular forum where users regularly discuss a wide range of travel topics, and a blog community where they have brought together a wealth of overseas travel experiences. They also regularly post insightful articles to help expand the communities knowledge about opportunities to travel abroad.
I ended up spending a lot of times on their site reading blogs about Culture Shock, Travelling...and have not even reached the forums yet! It has a lot of resources and informations and if you intend even vaguely a stint abroad: I really recommend you to go and check Go!Overseas.

So thank you Andrew for the honour ! ^__^

Both Sophie and I are very pleased. And my gratitude to all of you ( mostly silent readers ^__^ ) because without you, this blog would not be here.

Merci!
